I read it and now long for the food of gout and gastritis. My pyloric valve is screaming at me to find something that will help us remember that nothing cooked in our Le Creuset will ever compare to the beauty of our mother’s tireless efforts to make food appealing.
I’ve got moving fuckits at the moment. Over the last year I’ve lost 80 pounds quit smoking, drinking and caffeine for the most part. The catch is I live in Kyoto, the temptations are endless but I managed to work through the Japan fuckits till now. We are moving to California I don’t know when I’ll be back here so it’s off to the races. Thanks for the encouragement.
DUUUDE! The Kyoto fuckits are REAL! My first time there I was deep into a diet and my buddy and I began our trip by wandering down Kiyamachi Street, total disaster. Tokyo and Mt Fuji fuckits got me too. That you've managed the Japanese fuckits is HUGE!
I don't know if this is factually true, but I seem to recall that moving in general is one of the most stressful things you can do, anecdotally I find harmony with this sentiment. It's tough.
When the fuckits have won, I try and stop resisting them, but get back on my path as quickly as possible. It was my wife's birthday yesterday, and the end of our night found us eating gelato. I managed to throw the majority of mine away without too much effort, have also managed not to beat myself up about it today, and am now back on track.
Thank you for the encouragement! Our apartment was a few blocks from Kiamachi Street nothing but trouble from one end to the other! Tiny inviting bars with friendly bartenders and delicious looking food, the smell of grilled meat and chicken wafting from every corner … ok enough of that. Yes moving is a bit stressful but I’ve moved 3 times in the last year so I’m getting used to it. Now it’s off to Long Beach, but we plan to buy a house here in Japan within the next couple years. I want a place in the country to grow vegetables, fruit, maybe some rice and sit on the porch at sunset. That way I have a permanent place in the world. Cheers.
I've got two little little ones so the holidays also come with a nice cold that I'm battling now with the array of treats surrounding me. Really just focusing on not getting off the path more than two days straight. If I can stack up the small wins I know the big ones are waiting. Have a great day everyone!
I like the zest and spicy nastiness in this newsletter.
Here's an uproarious, hysterically FUNNY account of how Holiday food has been getting worse
